Allergy
Allergy, also known as Atopy or Allergic Hypersensitivity, is an exaggerated reaction by the human immune system in response to foreign substances called Allergens. Allergy can be lethal to some individuals.
Allergens are normally harmless substances such as foods, plants, drugs, perfumes, dust, animal parasites, and many other environmental substances. Allergens may be inhaled, ingested, injected or come in contact with the skin.
Allergy symptoms are classified as mild, moderate, or severe. Mild allergic reactions include rash, watery eyes and congestion. Moderate allergy symptoms include itchiness and difficulty in breathing. Anaphylaxis or severe allergy symptoms are rare yet threatening to life, and are characterized by abdominal pain, diarrhea, cramps, vomiting and mental confusion.
Allergy treatment include taking antidotes such as Antihistamines, Decongestants, and Corticosteroids.
Allergy medications that prevent allergy symptoms include Allegra (Fexofenadine), Atarax (Hydroxyzin), Clarinex (Desloratadine). However, the best method to prevent and even treat allergic reaction is to avoid any contact with allergens.
